DCI's no-upcharge pricing runs into a recognition problem
The no-upcharge pricing is real, but the grade carries no resale weight — grade here for yourself.
Cardboard JournalOur analysis
DCI's pricing offer is real and its problem is not about pricing. No declared-value upcharges from around $25 a card is a coherent position, and for a high-value card it is materially cheaper than a major.
The friction is recognition, and recognition is not something a grader can fix by being better. The circulating phrase — that you are paying for two guys' opinion — is unfair as a description of the work and accurate as a description of the market's confidence. A grade is a claim, and a claim is worth what buyers think the claimant knows.
So the use case is honest but narrow. Grade here for your own records, your own display, your own peace of mind about a card's condition. Do not grade here expecting the sticker to move the price.
