Beckett’s Recovery, Phase 2: Still Waiting on Answers

Back: accounts, submissions, pop reports, cert lookup. Not back: price guide, Marketplace.

On 2 October, Beckett said it had detected “suspicious technical activity,” taken its platforms offline and brought in outside security experts for a forensic investigation. By then, beckett.com had been a holding page since 9 September, a gap of roughly three weeks between the outage and the first explanation.

eBay UK will send cards from £250 to PSA for checks, down from £500

More UK card sales now pass through PSA. Only PSA, SGC, CGC, CSG and BGS slabs are on eBay's list.

It took Beckett 23 days to say "suspicious". The rest of its statement is still vague.

Beckett has admitted a security scare. Its careful wording still leaves customers guessing.

CGCMarket acceptance

CGC now takes cards at 20 FYE stores. It has not said what the counter costs.

Easier to hand in cards, not faster: add shipping both ways to CGC's own wait.

CGCMarket acceptance

CGC posts a record month as the market's last major independent keeps growing

CGC keeps growing as Collectors-owned SGC keeps shrinking

OpinionBGS, Golden GradingMarket acceptanceBy Cardboard Journal

Golden's slab looks like Beckett's. Only one of them travels.

Buy the card, not the holder — and price a Golden slab as a nice case.

PSAMarket acceptance

PSA opens Frankfurt to EU submissions on 15 September

EU submitters stop paying the international shipping tax on every order.

GMA Grading & AuthenticationMarket acceptance

GMA is the cheap protection option, and collectors are blunt about the trade

Use it to protect a card you are keeping; never to prepare one you intend to sell.

DCI GradingMarket acceptance

DCI's no-upcharge pricing runs into a recognition problem

The no-upcharge pricing is real, but the grade carries no resale weight — grade here for yourself.

ISAMarket acceptance

ISA's 14-day, $15 flat pitch is aimed at dealers, not flippers

Built for dealers turning inventory, not for chasing a grade premium.

TGAMarket acceptance

TGA is building a Canadian alternative on turnaround speed

Saves Canadian submitters the border crossing; resale still expects a major label.

PGIMarket acceptance

PGI deliberately grades the cards the majors don't want

The only sensible fit is sub-$100 post-1980 cards and the foreign issues the majors ignore.

GASMarket acceptance

GAS is moving real volume on Whatnot despite thin mainstream recognition

Only worth it if you sell on Whatnot; the slab does not travel to other channels.

CGCMarket acceptance

The CGC-to-PSA price gap on modern Pokémon has quietly narrowed

PSA's premium on modern Pokemon has fallen to 5-10% — CGC now costs less than the edge it gives up.

Ace GradingMarket acceptance

ACE has become the default for UK collectors on cost and speed

The right call for UK-to-UK selling; PSA's 15-30% premium still wins if you sell globally.

Rare EditionMarket acceptance

Rare Edition is selling presentation as much as grading

You are buying the holder, not the grade; price it as display, not as resale.
